THE MCM DISTILLERY
THE FOUNDERS
Meet Ivan Skenderoski and Graeme Lowther - two passionate gin enthusiasts and successful entrepreneurs. They are also co-founders of the international management consultancy Salience, having over a decade of experience leading and managing Salience’s multinational operations and bringing their enthusiasm and business expertise to Smidgin.
Inspired by the micro-distillery revolution in Graeme’s home country of Scotland, they have been experimenting with small alembic stills for years. Using the fresh berries from Macedonia convinced them that the unique freshness required a local gin from Macedonia.
MADE WITH PASSION IN THE ICONIC MCM DISTILLERY IN THE HEART OF SKOPJE
Smidgin is distilled and bottled at a unique location in the center of Skopje, in the historic MCM building, the house of the Ruben family, in Debar Maalo.
The MCM is a recognizable landmark, fitted-out for craft production using a traditional copper alembic still, with bottles carefully filled and labeled by Smidgin's personal distillers.
THE MASTER DISTILLER
Milica Pletvarska, is the master distiller and skilled enologist with passion and diligence for excellence. Milica brings her broad experience as a professional distiller of brandy and a wine maker. In 2020 Milica, Ivan and Graeme embarked on a tour of gin distilleries in London and Edinburgh tasting some of the best gins in the world. From this experience we created our own best practice gin making. Milica was searching for a way to create a distinctive mouth-feel to complement the fresh juniper taste of Smidgin without using additives such as glycerin which many other distillers use. She added mountain tea, a type of wild sage that grows in the southern mountains and which is renowned for its health benefits. Fascinated by the world of botanicals and enjoying playing around with flavour combinations, Milica found the right balance of complexity, aromas, taste and finish.
